EDINBURG, Texas – In an exhibition match to kick off the spring portion of the 2022-23 St. Mary's Men's Tennis season, the Rattlers dropped a 6-1 decision at UT Rio Grande Valley on Wednesday.

Junior
Jake Faryniarz (San Antonio) gutted out the lone win for the team at No. 6 singles. After falling in the first set 6-3, Faryniarz flipped the script, losing only two games the remainder of the day for the 3-6, 6-0, 6-2 win. No other Rattler was able to win more than six games against the Division I opponent.

Avlaro Soler (Alicante, Spain),
Ryan Koth (Boerne, Texas) and
Sebastian Azcui (La Paz, Bolivia) all won six games each at #2, #3 and #5 singles, respectively. Soler and Koth both fell 6-2, 6-4, while Azcui inverted the scores for the 6-4, 6-2 loss.

The Rattlers open the regular season on Friday, Feb. 3 against Southeastern Oklahoma State at Angelo State at 9 a.m.
