SAN ANTONIO – After a slow start, the St. Mary's Men's Soccer Team exploded for four goals in the second half to win the first-ever meeting against Texas A&M San Antonio 5-0 on Saturday evening in the season home opener for the Rattlers.
St. Mary's (2-0-3), ranked 21st in the nation, got goals from five different players as the team outshot the Jaguars 29-5 on the night.
Freshman
Calum Murdoch (Christchurch, New Zealand) got the Rattlers scoring started, scoring the lone goal in the first half, taking a pass from freshman
Alexander Carey (Glasgow, Scotland) in the 33rd minute.
In the 68th minute, senior
Lewis Wilson (Aberdeen, Scotland) headed in a corner kick by senior
Deni Cresto (Curitiba, Parana, Brazil) for the 2-0 lead. Carey found fellow freshman
Lewis Coates (Harrogate, North Yorkshire, England) for the third goal at the 75:27 mark.
Less than four minutes later, junior
Jalil Blalock (Elizabeth, N.J.) found the back of the net on a pass from senior
Jose Llano (Mexico City, Mexico) and junior Enrico Zorzin Onzi (Caxias Do Sul, Brazil) capped the scoring when senior
Leonardo Velazco (El Pinar, Canelones, Uruguay) found him open in the 88th minute.
The Rattlers defense held the Jaguars to just five shots on the night and none on goal in the team's final game of the year against a non-Lone Star foe.
St. Mary's heads back out on the road for a non-conference tilt at DBU on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The team is then home for five of its next six matches, including the nightcap of a triple header on Saturday with women's soccer at 1 p.m. and volleyball at 2 p.m. on campus.
