#24 Men's Soccer Shuts Out Fourth Straight Foe

DALLAS, Texas – For the fourth-straight game, the St. Mary's Men's Soccer Team tallied a clean sheet, shutting out DBU 2-0 in a non-conference contest on Wednesday night.

Junior goalkeeper Andre Schlaefli (Katy, Texas), this week's Lone Star Conference Goalkeeper of the Week, stretched the Rattlers (3-0-3) streak of not allowing a goal to 375 consecutive minutes as he and the defensive line only allowed one shot on goal all night.

Both junior Collins Gitau (Huntsville, Texas) and freshman Adam Aboohamidi (Wolfforth, Texas) scored their first goals of the season in the victory for the 24th-ranked team in the nation.

"I thought we were just okay in the first half," said Head Coach Johnny Clifford. "But we challenged the boys to make some positive changes in the second half and they certainly did that. I'm really proud of the work-rate we put in tonight and our back line was fantastic for the clean sheet!"

The Rattlers become only the second team to score more than one goal against DBU (1-2-4) this season, the other being the five UT Tyler posted on them on Sept. 3. It is also the first StMU team since 2002 to record four straight shutouts.

Gitau had an excellent look at goal with a left-footed shot towards the bottom left corner in the 41st minute, but DBU goalkeeper Alexander Knepper made a diving save to keep the game scoreless. Gitau started the second half, and scored on a free kick from senior Deni Cresto (Curitiba, Parana, Brazil) in the 49th minute.

Just six minutes later, Aboohamidi scored on a breakaway feed from sophomore Andrick Ferrer (San Antonio) that found the bottom left corner for the 2-0 win.

The Rattlers outshot the Patriots 15-8 in the game, despite DBU having six corner kicks compared to four for StMU.

St. Mary's returns to Sigma Beta Chi Field on Saturday to host Texas A&M International at 7 p.m. The Dust Devils defeated UT Tyler 2-0 in Laredo on Wednesday night.
