Box Score 2 PUEBLO, Colo. – The St. Mary's Women's Tennis team won both matches on day one of the Pueblo Duals, sweeping both Colorado Mesa and Colorado College 7-0.

"It was a tough mental adjustment to playing in the higher altitude," said Director of Tennis
Bill Macom. "It definitely wasn't our best tennis today, collectively, but we were able to close things out. We were able to see some doubles combinations and are predicting that our best tennis will happen tomorrow."

The Rattlers close out the tournament on Saturday at Noon on the campus of MSU Denver against the Roadrunners.

COLORADO MESA RECAP (7-0)
The Rattlers swept Colorado Mesa and eight of the nine matches were decided in straight sets. The lone exception was senior
Ashley Penshorn (Montgomery, Texas) who won 6-0 in the first set and dominated in the international doubles tiebreaker, 10-3 after dropping the middle set 6-4.Â

Junior
Kyndall Quiroz (San Antonio) only lost four games at #3 singles, while freshman
Stela Sifuentes (Eagle Pass, Texas) at #5 and sophomore
Elisa Rodriguez (Houston) at #6 each only dropped five games.

Senior
Angela Vargas (Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico) continued to play strong in tiebreakers, winning 7-4 in the second-set breaker at #1 singles to secure the straight-set win. She is now 5-1 in her StMU career in 7-point tiebreakers.

COLORADO COLLEGE RECAP (7-0)
StMU quickly took the 1-0 lead, winning all three doubles matches, including a 6-1 set by the No. 3 team of Sifuentes and sophomore
Callah Preti (Liberty Lake, Wash.).

Penshorn dropped only three sets at No. 2 singles, while Quiroz lost two in the first game and pitched a 6-0 shutout in the second. Rodriguez also shut out her opponent in the second set, winning 6-3, 6-0 at No. 5. After Sifuentes won the opening set 6-0 at #4, she battled through the second getting a late break of serve to win 7-5.

At number one, Vargas also won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2 and Munoz closed out the night with a dominating 6-1, 6-0 win at #6.
