RICHARDSON, Texas -- For the third straight week, a St. Mary's Women's Soccer player has been named Player of the Week, as
Megan Copeland earned Defensive honors on Sept. 12.
Copeland, a senior from San Antonio, not only anchored the Rattler defense that shut out a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opponents on the road but also scored the game-winning goal at Adams State on a penalty kick in the 75th minute on Sunday afternoon.
The defender led a back line that allowed six shots on goal in two matches, including just two in the second half. Along with her defensive performances, Copeland now has three goals and four assists, lifting StMU to its best start in program history at 6-0. The Rattlers' defense has not allowed a goal in 342 minutes, shutting out the last three foes, and has allowed just two goals in six matches.
Copeland and the Rattlers begin Lone Star Conference play this week, hosting St. Edward's on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
