Women's Soccer Looks To Continue Momentum

Felician (0-1) at St. Mary's (2-0, 0-0) • 7 p.m.

Sunday, September 4 • Canyon • The Pitch
Fort Lewis (0-1-1) vs. St. Mary's • 11 a.m.

Split Week: St. Mary's continues the 2022 season hosting Felician for the first time in school history on Friday and then heads to Canyon for a neutral match against Fort Lewis on Sunday

What An Honor: Senior Juni Ejere was named the first Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week in 2022 after scoring two goals and adding an assist in the first week. This is the second weekly award for the Weatherford native.

Goals-a-Plenty: St. Mary's scored seven times in the first two games of the season with six different players finding the back of the net. Senior Juni Ejere scored the first two goals of the year, while Megan Copeland, Alexis Garcia, Eliza Merrion, Shelby Paniagua and Kylie Von Holle each scored once.

Fort Lewis History: Sunday will be the third-ever meeting between the Rattlers and Skyhawks and the series is tied at one game each. Fort Lewis won the last meeting, a 2-1 decision back in 2004 in San Antonio, while the Rattlers won by the identical score in Durango in 2003.

Game Winners: Senior Kylie Von Holle headed in the game winner against Missouri Western State on Saturday, giving her four game winning goals in her career. She is now tied for 11th in St. Mary's history and with one more will move into a knot for seventh on the career charts.

Fresh Faces: Of the 16 newcomers (14 incoming players, two redshirts), five saw action in the first two games. Freshmen Cami Jordan, Shelby Paniagua and Sydney Varela played in both games, while Eliza Cerda and Valerie Hover each played in one.

Oh Captain, My Captain: The two fifth-year seniors on the squad, Megan Copeland and Kylie Von Holle have been named captains for the 2022 season.

Returning All-Region: Senior Megan Copeland has chosen to take her "Covid" year. She is both a two-time Lone Star All-Conference and two-time Lone Star All-Tournament selection, as well as earning D2CCA Second-Team All-Region pick last fall.

Defending the Goal: As a true freshman in 2021, Rebecca Difronzo led the tough Lone Star Conference with a 0.842 saves percentage, allowing only 18 goals in 18 games with 96 saves. She ranked fifth in goals against average (1.022) and fourth in saves per game (5.33).
