Mares Earns LSC Player of the Week

RICHARDSON, Texas -- St. Mary's senior shortstop Jake Mares has been named the Lone Star Conference Player of the Week, league officials announced on Monday.  It is the first weekly honor this season for Mares and the second in his career.

Mares had four multi-hit games in the four-game series as the Rattlers took three from St. Edward's in Austin. The senior scored the winning run in the 6-5 extra-inning game three after singling to right-center and scoring from first on a double. He's now had multiple hits in each of his last seven games, raising his season average to .396. In the Rattlers' 18-8 game two victory, Mares tied his season high with three RBI and was on base four times, going 2-for-4 with a walk and was hit by a pitch. The senior scored at least one run in each game of the series and stole a pair of bases. Mares was 11-for-19 (.579) from the plate, scored six runs, brough in four RBI with a pair of walks during the week.

Mares has now reached base safely in 13 straight contests and leads the team with 11 multi-hit games. He is the third Rattler to be honored with a weekly award, joining pitchers Dylan Bells (Feb. 15) and Josh Buske (Mar. 15).
