TAKING THE PITCH
The No. 24 St. Mary's Rattlers play the Orediggers of Colorado School of Mines to conclude their opening road trip. StMU and School of Mines will duel at 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon after both teams came away with wins on opening night.
For the Rattlers, they relied on newcomer Erwin Regules to cash in a golden goal in overtime against Metro State. The Rattlers played a physical game against the Roadrunners and emerged with a 3-2 victory on Friday evening in Denver.
The No. 8 Orediggers also come into Sunday's contest at 1-0. The Orediggers defeated St. Martin's 2-1 in front of a home crowd to start their season strong.
The Rattlers have won three of the first four meetings between the two sides, including the last three contests. The Orediggers only win over StMU came all the way back in 2000 when they visited San Antonio for the first time.
RATTLER STORYLINES
-The Rattlers got offensive contributions from all over the field on Friday night, collecting goals from Tony Andoyan, Cian Foley, and the aforementioned Regules.
- StMU is trying to make it four consecutive years of sweeping their RMAC opponents to open a season. The Rattlers have played School of Mines and Metro State in each of their last three full seasons.
- The Rattlers are looking to win their first two games of a season for the fourth straight season.
SCOUTING SCHOOL OF MINES
- The Orediggers are ranked eighth in the country and are one of the top teams in the RMAC.
- Mines struggled to convert early in their contest against St. Martin's, but got stronger as the night went along.
- Mines did not record a save on Friday night as the only shot they allowed found the back of the net.
UP NEXT
The Rattlers come back to San Antonio to host Palm Beach Atlantic in their home opener on Thursday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
