Tennis Earns 4 2020 ITA All-American Selections

SAN ANTONIO — St. Mary's Tennis had four Rattlers named ITA Division II All-Americans on Tuesday: Ashley Penshorn and Marina Vigil from the women, and Jeremiah Gonzalez and Brendan Brown from the men.

Penshorn, a sophomore, was the only individual All-American selection for the Rattlers, following up a No. 1 ranking in the South Central Region earlier this month. She and her doubles partner, Vigil, a junior, were named to the All-American doubles team together.

"Ashley and Marina definitely earned it. They made some great comebacks in the ITA regional to reach the finals, which was amazing," said Director of Tennis Bill Macom. "In singles, Ashley just kept improving in every round at regionals, was extremely coachable and just dominated play."

For the men, Gonzalez, a senior, and Brown, a junior, were selected as an All-American doubles pair. The duo went 4-2 in doubles competition this season, including an impressive win at No. 16 West Alabama to open the spring season.

"It is certainly well deserved for both of them," Macom said. "Jeremiah and Brendan played so many great matches together this season. They were a fun pair to watch."
