Posito and Terlizzi Doubles Finalists at ITA South Central Regional

TYLER, Texas — St. Mary's University seniors Gia Posito and Alessia Terlizzi played for the doubles title at the 2025 ITA South Central Regional, while junior Selina Wu won the consolation draw in singles for the Women's Tennis team on the campus of UT Tyler.
 
Posito (Houston) and Terlizzi (Andria, Italy) rolled through the first four rounds, dropping only eight games total before dropping the finals 6-1, 6-1 to fourth-seeded Camila Garcia Morales and Emilia Gyorgy from Midwestern State. The duo beat teams from Colorado State-Pueblo, UT Tyler, Midwestern State and Angelo State over the three-day tournament to reach the finals.

"Alessia and Gia played very well in the doubles, and have improved quite a bit from last year," said Director of Tennis Bill Macom. "We were hoping to have more success overall in singles, but at least Alessia had a strong run in the main draw. Selina drew a tough first round opponent but it was good that she bounced back in the consolation draw to gain more match experience."
 
Terlizzi also reached the quarterfinals of the singles draw before falling to third-seeded and finalist Margaux Rene, 6-2, 6-0. 
 
Wu, a junior from San Gabriel, Calif., lost her opening round match on Thursday in a three-set tiebreaker, but breezed through four of her five matches in the backdraw, including defeating Luisa Moraes from UT Tyler, 6-0, 6-1 in the finals. The only tough test for Wu was in the consolation quarterfinals, where she needed a third-set tiebreaker to defeat Maria Antonio Ortega from host, UTT. 
 
Freshman Isabella Olsson (Sverige, Sweden), Posito, and junior Suryanshi Suryanshi (Bikaner, Rajasthan, India) all won one match during singles play, with Posito and Suryanshi bowing out in the round of 32, while Olsson lost her first match and was eliminated in the consolation round of 16.
 
Posito and Terlizzi will now await word on an at-large berth to the prestigious ITA Cup, Oct. 15-19 at the USTA National Campus in Rome, Ga.
