SAN ANTONIO — Fighting through a two-hour rain delay to begin the tournament, and high temperatures the remainder of the weekend, the St. Mary's University Women's Tennis team went a combined 12-3 in singles play and 4-1 in doubles in a small field at the Lilly Kimbell Memorial over the weekend.
"For the second weekend in a row, we did a pretty good job dealing with the heat and some rain interruptions to come out with good records in each flight," said Director of Tennis
Bill Macom. "I am looking forward to the next few weeks of practice before the ITA's."
Seniors
Gia Posito (Houston),
Alessia Terlizzi (Andria, Italy) and freshmen
Isabella Olsson (Sverige, Sweden) all went 3-0 in their respective flights in singles action, while Posito and Terlizzi teamed up in doubles and didn't drop a single game in two sets. Terlizzi also lost only five games in her three singles bouts, dominating her competition in Flight 3.
Junior transfer Madalyn Smelley (Ocean Springs, Miss.) was 2-1 in flight 1, defeating a pair of Lone Star Conference foes, sandwiched around a loss to OLLU's Carolina Guerrero.
Olsson and fellow freshman
Sarah Wooten (Beaumont, Texas) were 2-1 in doubles to move to 5-1 in 2025 after going 3-0 last week at the Brother Al Invitational.
The Rattlers have a break in competition until the ITA South Central Regional Tournament on Sept. 25-27 in Tyler, Texas.
