Box Score MIDLOTHIAN, Texas – The St. Mary's University Men's Tennis team picked up its first win of the spring season on Saturday afternoon as they took down Ouachita Baptist University by a score of 5-2.
"It was a team effort today and we did a great job keeping our composure after missing out on several match point opportunities in some of the second sets," said Director of Tennis
Bill Macom. "Our strong doubles play really set the tone for our confidence in the singles."
In doubles action,
Jeremiah Gonzalez and
Brendan Brown cruised past the Tiger duo of Francisco Oliveira and Juan Moncada, 6-1.
Bojan Popovic and
Saisaurav Konakanchi defeated Dan Kaplun and Tobias Fuerschuss, 7-5 while
Daniel Gill and
Sebastian Azcui took the finals doubles point, defeating Santiago Kearney and Carlos Solorzano, 7-6.
Alex Gee picked up the first singles win of the day for the Rattlers in the No. 3 spot as he defeated Moncada, 6-1, 6-4. In No. 6 singles, Brown defeated Matias Parzajuk, 7-5, 6-3. Gonzalez outlasted Oliveira, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 in No. 1 singles to secure the victory for St. Mary's.
Louis Bonnay defeated Nair Adi, 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 in No. 5 singles to pick up his first victory of the spring.
The Rattlers move to 1-1 on the season and will travel to Kerrville next Sunday to take on Schreiner University.
