KINGSVILLE, Texas – The St. Mary's Volleyball team kept things rolling with a pair of wins to begin the Emerald Beach Hotel – Javelina Volleyball Invitational on Thursday afternoon. The Rattlers defeated the host Texas A&M Kingsville Javelinas in five sets, 13-25, 25-14, 20-25, 25-21, 15-13 and then swept Westminster, Utah 25-16, 25-14, 25-20 to improve to 4-1 on the season.

Senior outside hitter KK Payne (New Braunfels, Texas) led the Rattlers with 14 kills against Kingsville and then had a double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs against the Griffins, while sophomore Jasmine Sims (Graham, Texas) had 12 kills in each match, which led the team in the nightcap. She also totaled five service aces in the two matches.

"I'm excited with the way the team played today," said Head Coach Stephanie Armstrong. "We did a great job of responding after the first set of the Kingsville match. I thought we served aggressive to get both teams out of system, which allowed our hitters to do a great job. KK and Jasmine both stepped up to lead us with their offense today."

Defensively, sophomore libero Catherine Cruz (San Antonio) posted a career-high 19 digs in the win over TAMUK and she had a team-high 14 digs in the win over the Griffins. Sophomore defensive specialist Gabi Sandoval (San Antonio) also posted a career-high with 12 digs in the second match of the day, as four Rattlers hit double digits in digs.
