Heather Kennedy joined the St. Mary's staff in a part-time role in October, 2018 and moved to the director of athletic communications role in June, 2022. She is in charge of statistical coordination as well as handling the athletic communications duties for all 13 Rattler sports.

She serves as the South Central regional representative on the D2SIDA/CSC board, was voted the chair of the Lone Star Conference SID committee in July, 2026, and at that same meeting, was named the LSC SID of the Year, becoming the first-ever SID to win the award twice. Kennedy was also honored at the St. Mary's Athletics Banquet in 2026 with the Brother Lou Ernst Rattler Award, given to one whose sense of spirit, faith and service defines the excellence that it means to be a Rattler. 

Kennedy medically retired in July, 2014 after spending seven years as the director of athletic media relations at the University of Northern Colorado. She lives with a rare neurological disorder (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome) that left her unable to work in a traditional role.

Prior to Northern Colorado, Kennedy was the assistant media relations director at Colorado State University from 2000-2007, and she spent four years as the assistant communications director at the Big Sky Conference (1996-2000) in Ogden, Utah.

A 1996 graduate from Doane College in Crete, Nebraska, she received her bachelor's degree in mathematics. Kennedy moved with her family to San Antonio in August, 2014.
