Gonzalez, Popovic named to All-Heartland First Team

2019 All-Heartland Men's Tennis Team
 
WACO, Texas – St. Mary's Men's Tennis junior Jeremiah Gonzalez and senior Bojan Popovic were named to the 2019 All-Heartland First Team.
 
Gonzalez went 13-4 in singles action this season, all in the No. 1 position. The junior came up with big wins over top-25 contestants on multiple occasions, including: Hawaii at Hilo's Vaclav Slezak, Southwest Baptist's Raul Caballero, and West Alabama's Julius Kaverinen. Gonzalez is ranked No. 18 in singles by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The Harlingen, Texas native was joined alongside Bojan Popovic at the No. 1 doubles position for the majority of the season. The duo went 9-8.
 
Bojan Popovic finished the season at 8-10 at the No. 2 singles position. He took a singles victory against his former university, No. 16 ranked Hawaii Pacific. Popovic was able to defeat Cheng-Chieh Wang 7-5, 7-6. The Larnaca, Cyprus native is the reigning ITA South Central Region doubles champion.

St. Mary's head coach Lisa Dausin was named the Heartland Conference Women's Tennis Coach of the Year after leading the Rattlers to a seventh-straight Heartland Conference Tournament Championship upsetting top seed St. Edward's. The award-winning Dausin has been the Heartland Conference Coach of the Year for seven straight seasons.
 
The Rattlers went 7-13 this year, and finished the season with a close 4-3 match against the Newman in the Heartland Conference Championship. St. Mary's was unable to top the Jets in that matchup.
