By Heather Kennedy | St. Mary's Athletic Communications

SAN ANTONIO – On a very windy day at the Park, the St. Mary's softball team split a doubleheader with Texas A&M International, dropping game one 3-0 in 10 innings before bouncing back to win game two 8-2.

With the split, the Rattlers are now 28-20 on the year and 17-11 in Heartland Conference play, while the Dust Devils are 20-29 overall and 13-14 in Heartland play. Oklahoma Christian took a one –game lead in the conference standings over the Rattlers with its DH sweep over Rogers State today. The Hillcats drop to third, ½ game behind the Rattlers. The Eagles and Hillcats have three more games against each other remaining on the schedule.

Senior Raynelle Nash (San Antonio) went 4-for-7 with three RBIs and a run scored over the two games, while junior Taylor Germain (San Antonio) was 3-for-8 with two RBIs and a run scored.

St. Mary's steps out of Heartland play for the final time on Tuesday when they host Texas A&M Kingsville for a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. The final regular season series will begin on Friday, April 26 at 6 p.m. against St. Edwards and conclude with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at Noon.

GAME ONE RECAP
Five different Rattlers recorded hits with freshman Victoria Aldridge (Elgin, Texas) going 2-for-4 as the team scattered hits throughout the 10 frames.

Junior Staci Johns (Elgin) had a no-hitter through 4 2/3 until Maddie Schofield doubled down the right field line, but she was stranded at second base. Johns ended throwing all 10 innings, allowing three runs, all unearned on seven hits with one walk and five strikeouts to move to 16-11 on the season.

The Dust Devil's Jenika Lombrana also pitched a complete game, surrendering six hits with one walk and six strikeouts and is now 9-12 on the year.
Texas A&M International scored its three runs on seven hits and was aided by four Rattler errors – two of which came in the 10th inning. St. Mary's had six hits in the contest.

With one out in the sixth, freshman Bari Christian (San Antonio) won a 12-pitch at bat to earn the first walk of the game and become the first base runner in 10 batters. With two outs, Aldridge laid down a fantastic bunt along the third base line and beat the throw for the team's fourth hit of the game, but the pair was left on base and the game moved to the seventh.

In the 10th, the Dust Devils scored three runs on three hits with two StMU errors to get the extra inning victory.

GAME TWO RECAP
The Rattlers jumped out to the early lead and never looked back, scoring eight runs on nine hits with three Dust Devil errors, while TAMIU scored two runs on six hits.

Nash was 3-for-4 in the game to pace the Rattlers, while Germain and Johns were both 2-for-4 and senior Angie Camacho (New Braunfels, Texas) was 1-for-1 with a walk and two runs scored.

Sophomore Alex McLennan (Austin, Texas) pitched a complete game for the Ratters, giving up two runs on six hits with no walks and she struck out four to improve to 10-5 on the year.

Sara Caterson gave up seven earned runs on nine hits, walking three and striking out two to fall to 7-9.

With one out, Aldridge walked on four-straight pitches. The catcher attempted to throw behind Aldridge at first and threw into right field. The right fielder then misplayed the ball, allowing Aldridge to get all the way to third. Nash singled between the hole at third and short stop to score the first
run of the game. Johns doubled to right center to give the Rattlers the 2-0 advantage.

In the second inning with two outs, Camacho hit a bloop shot right over third base and hustled all the way into second with a double and she scored when Germain reached first on a throwing error by the shortstop for the 3-0 lead.

Texas A&M International got two of the runs back in the top of the third on three hits for the 3-2 tally.

Freshman Tiffany Licon (Austin) led off the fourth with a single to right center and sophomore Abigale Carney (El Paso, Texas) was hit by a pitch on what would have been ball four. Christian moved both of them up a base on a sacrifice bunt and with two outs, Germain singled to left to score both for the 5-2 score.

With one out in the fifth, Johns again doubled to right center and freshman Aracelli Sanchez (San Antonio) pinch ran for her. She scurried to third on a wild pitch and sophomore Alex Moreno (El Paso) walked to put runners on the corners. Sanchez scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of Licon for the 6-2 lead.

In the sixth in one out, Camacho walked on four pitches and Germain singled past the shortstop. Aldridge bunted the pair up a base and Nash singled to right field, plating both for the 8-2 final score.
