St. Mary's Athletics Communications

TULSA, Oklahoma — St. Mary's freshman Caleb Jordan has had to shoulder a significant load throughout his inaugural season on the college hardwood.

And on Wednesday evening, the Rattler point guard was rewarded for his efforts.

Jordan, a native of Midlothian, Texas, was named the Heartland Conference Freshman of the Year, the league announced at the banquet tipping off the Heartland Conference Championship tournament. Jordan was also named to the All-Heartland Conference Honorable Mention Team.

Jordan averaged 14.6 points per game during the regular season, leading all Heartland rookies and ranking ninth overall in the league. He also ranked third in the conference in free throw attempts and second in free throws made.

Jordan, the only Rattler to start all 28 games, led the squad in scoring average (14.6), 3-pointers made (43), field goals made (120), free throws made (126), free throws attempted (145) and assists (81). His 120 made free throws ranks 8th in the program's history for a single season.

Jordan becomes the first Rattler to win the Heartland Freshman of the Year award since Yanni Wetzell in 2016.

He and the Rattlers will try to keep their season alive Thursday evening, when they take on No. 1-seeded St. Edward's in the Heartland Championship quarterfinals at the Union Multipurpose Activity Center. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. Catch the game online via the Heartland Digital Network.
