Rattlers drop close contest to Vulcans

SAN ANTONIO — The St. Mary's Men's Tennis team suffered a 4-2 setback to Hawaii at Hilo on Tuesday at the Northside Tennis Center.

The Rattlers picked up wins at No. 1 and No. 6 singles positions against the Vulcans.

In doubles, the Rattlers picked up a win at the No. 3 spot as sophomore duo Alex Gee/Sai Konakanchi won the set 6-3. The decisive match was at No. 1 where Bojan Popovic and Jerimiah Gonzalez lost a tough 7-6 (6) match for the Vulcans to claim the point.

Jerimiah Gonzalez and Louis Bonnay picked up wins to give the Rattlers a 2-1 advantage. At No. 1, Gonzalez had an impressive 6-2, 6-0 win over Vaclav Slezak, while at No. 6, Bonnay won 6-3, 6-4 against Alan Cincunegiu.

StMU lost tough three-set contests at No. 3 and No. 4, where Hawaii at Hilo was able to clinch the match at 4-2.
