SAN ANTONIO – On day two of the St. Mary's College Softball Classic, the host St. Mary's Rattlers ran into a buzzsaw in ninth-ranked Texas A&M-Commerce. The Lions defeated the Rattlers, 3-0 after defeating New Mexico Highlands 27-3 earlier in the day.

The Rattlers (3-4) had two hits in the game, a single to short by senior Kristal Salinas (San Antonio) in the second frame and a double off the bat of sophomore Abigale Carney (El Paso, Texas) that hit the 220 sign in straight-away centerfield in the fourth inning.

The Lions scored one run in the second and two runs in the fifth, all off of junior Jula Cruz (2-2). Cruz (Asherton, Texas) pitched 4 1/3 innings for the Rattlers, allowing the three runs on seven hits, walking three and striking out four. Sophomore Alex McLennan (Austin, Texas) pitched the final 2 2/3 innings, allowing just one hit and she struck out four. Neither pitcher walked a batter in the game.

Emily Otto moved to 4-0 for the Lions after her complete game victory in the circle. She walked three and struck out four.

The Rattlers return to the field on Saturday at approximately 4:45 p.m. against Colorado School of Mines. The Orediggers are 0-6 on the year after falling 5-3 earlier tonight to Tarleton State.
