SAN ANTONIO – The St. Mary's baseball team earned a hard-fought split against West Texas A&M, the number two-ranked team in the nation on Saturday, dropping game one 13-4 before bouncing back to win game two 11-6.

Senior Mario Vela (Mission, Texas) was 4-for-6 with two RBIs, a double and a sacrifice bunt over the two games and junior Keaton Milford (New Braunfels, Texas) had six RBIs and two home runs in the nightcap.

The Rattlers (8-6) and Buffs (14-2) conclude their series on Sunday at noon at Dickson Stadium. The Rattlers remain at home for a three-game series against Lubbock Christian beginning on Friday with a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.

GAME ONE RECAP

Senior Oscar Sepulveda (San Antonio) fell to 2-2 on the season after pitching 2 2/3 innings. He allowed seven earned runs on seven hits, walking one and striking out four. Both junior Mason Minister (San Antonio) and senior Branson Hall (Lubbock, Texas) pitched two or more innings in relief.

The Buffs scored eight runs in the third and three in the fourth to take an 11-0 lead before the Rattlers were able to break onto the scoreboard in the fifth. With one out, junior Johnny Hernandez (El Paso) walked and sophomore Javier Camacho (Corpus Christi, Texas) also drew a base on balls. Junior Steven Wynn (San Antonio) was hit by a pitch to load the bases and junior Ragan Forrest (Lorena, Texas) walked to plate Hernandez for the first run. Vela singled to score Camacho and McGowen singled between the third baseman and short stop to score two more for the 11-4 tally.

West Texas A&M tacked on two runs in the top of the seventh for the 13-4 final score.

GAME TWO RECAP
Milford once again exploded for six RBIs, helping lead the Rattlers to an 11-6 victory in the nightcap. It is the third time this season Milford has had more than five RBIs in a game.
