@StMUbaseball trio earns NCBWA All-Region recognition

SAN ANTONIO — Three St. Mary's Baseball players have earned All-Region recognition from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
 
Pitchers Fernando Fernandez-Beltran and Zach De La Garza joined third baseman Jacob Aguilar in being selected to the NCBWA All-Region Second Team, it was recently announced.
 
Fernandez-Beltran, a redshirt-senior from Mercier, Quebec, led the Rattlers with 91 strikeouts and four shutouts over 14 starts. Fernandez-Beltran, who made a total of 15 appearances, pitched nine complete games and 95 total innings, going 8-5 on the season with a 2.65 ERA.
 
De La Garza, a sophomore from Holmes High School in San Antonio, led St. Mary's in victories with a 10-3 record this season and had the best ERA (2.60) among all starters. He logged 82 strikeouts over 93 1/3 innings, and pitched five complete games over 14 starts.
 
Aguilar, a senior from El Paso, Texas, had a monster season at the plate, batting .351 with a team-leading 67 hits. He totaled 47 RBIs and 37 runs scored, slugging .445 on the season while logging seven doubles and three home runs.
 
The trio helped lead St. Mary's to its first Heartland Conference championship since 2015.
