Streaking Rattlers continue to roll, top UHV on road

VICTORIA, Texas — Donnie Perez's big week continued Tuesday night.
 
Hours after being named the Heartland Conference Hitter of the Week, the St. Mary's slugger belted a three-run shot to help power the Rattlers past Houston-Victoria, 9-3, in nonconference play at Riverside Stadium.
 
With St. Mary's trailing 2-1 early, Perez's go-ahead home run in the fifth inning helped spark a massive rally — and keep the team's red-hot streak going.
 
Winners of nine of their last 10, St. Mary's (9-4) padded its lead with a four-run outburst in the ninth inning.
 
Aiding Perez's fifth-inning blast were 2-RBI outputs from Angel Vega and Ragan Forrest. James Davison also drove in a run in a two-hit performance, while Nick Galaviz also recorded two hits and an RBI.
 
Steven Cardone picked up the win for St. Mary's, his first of the season. He fanned two and allowed one hit in one inning of work.
 
St. Mary's and Houston-Victoria will be back at it against next Tuesday, when the Rattlers host the Jaguars at 6 p.m. at Dickson Stadium.
