Rattlers hang on to take series from #18 Javelinas

KINGSVILLE, Texas — Rattler Baseball finished its three-game set against #18 Texas A&M-Kingsville, splitting a doubleheader on Saturday.
 
A monster series finale from Donnie Perez helped catapult the Rattlers to victory as the junior finished the nightcap going 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and a run scored.
 
Mario Vela posted a pair of hits, collecting two RBI and a run scored while Jonathan Ramirez would pick up an RBI single in a pinch-hit appearance.
 
Cole Hybner came up huge on the mound, going 5.2 innings, allowing only one earned run with a pair of strikeouts.
 
It took a walk-off single in the opening game to snap a seven-game Rattler winning streak.
 
The Rattlers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in Game 1 before the Javelinas countered, outscoring the Rattlers 5-1 through the last 3.5 innings.
 
At the plate, Angel Vega was automatic, going 3-for-3 with an RBI, run scored and a double. Andrew Perez would tally a pair of hits and a run scored while Donnie Perez added an RBI single and a walk to his stat line.
 
On Feb. 27, the Rattlers will travel to Victoria, Texas to face Houston-Victoria in the first of a home-and-home series between the two schools.
