Dawson's 2 goals propel Rattlers in opener

DALLAS — Heather Dawson netted a pair of second-half goals to send St. Mary's Women's Soccer home victorious on Opening Day.

The Rattlers defeated Delta State 2-0 in Saturday's opener, played at a neutral site at Richardson College.

St. Mary's keeper Caitlin McCarrell kept a clean sheet, saving seven shots while allowing no goals as the Rattlers opened the season 1-0.

St. Mary's outshot Delta State 17-8, controlling the pace of play throughout.

Rachel Gurinsky, Kaitlyn Judge and Maren Craig logged one assist apiece. Gurinsky led the Snakes with four shot attempts, including two on goal.

St. Mary's will be back in action Tuesday, when it travels to Laredo, Texas to take on Texas A&M International at 7 p.m. from Dustdevil Soccer Field.
