Offensive struggles derail Rattlers in Laredo

LAREDO, Texas — It wasn't the ideal start for St. Mary's Softball as it began its three-game series against Texas A&M International on Wednesday at the Dustdevil Softball Field with a 2-1 loss.
 
For the third time in four games, the Rattlers were held to one or fewer runs.
 
After falling behind in the third inning, the resilient Rattlers answered in the fifth, courtesy of an RBI double by Alena Moreno that scored Jourdan Alvarez.
 
An inning later, in the bottom of the sixth, the Dustdevils would capitalize on their opportunity, scoring the go-ahead run which would ultimately be the difference in the ballgame.
 
Along with Moreno, Hannah Michel, Raynelle Nash and Olivia Van Hook each registered base hits.
 
Despite the loss, Ashley Mills tossed three complete innings in which she allowed only two hits and a run that was not earned.
 
St. Mary's will look to rebound tomorrow when it concludes its series with the Dustdevils with a doubleheader beginning at noon.
