#3 Rattlers split doubleheader with Pioneers

By Brian Magloyoan | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

DENTON, Texas — After losing for the first time in eight games, the St. Mary's Rattlers bounced back, splitting Wednesday's doubleheader with the Texas Woman's Pioneers at Pioneer Field.

St. Mary's dropped the opener to the Pioneers, 7-4, before taking the nightcap by the same score.

Miranda Medina finished Game 2 with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate with two runs scored and a double. Kristal Salinas notched a two-RBI double as part of a five-run seventh inning that ultimately put the game away for the Rattlers.

The reigning Heartland Conference Player of the Week Raynelle Nash finished the nightcap with a single, double and two RBI.

Hope Russell notched her fifth victory of the season after tossing five complete innings, allowing only one earned run. Picking up her fourth save of the season was Ashley Mills who closed out the game by throwing the final two innings.

In the opener, the Rattlers and Pioneers were deadlocked at 3-3 entering the sixth inning. That was until TWU rallied for four runs in the bottom of the frame.

Nash registered a pair of hits with a home run. Marcela Vasquez collected a pair of hits of her own and three RBI, including a single and a two-run homer in the fifth.

On Friday, the Rattlers will resume conference play on the road against Oklahoma Panhandle State.
