Nash grand, Medina slams as Rattlers sweep doubleheader

By Brian Magloyoan | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

SAN ANTONIO — Add two more to the win column for the No. 8 ranked St. Mary's Rattlers.

Miranda Medina set the tone for the Rattlers with a first inning grand slam in Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas.

With one swing of the bat, Medina propelled the Rattlers to a 4-0 lead on their way to a third straight victory with a 7-3 win over the Javelinas.

Sophomore Raynelle Nash made her presence felt at the plate going 3-for-3 with a trio of singles, two RBI and a run scored.

Pitcher Jorden Russell collected her team-leading 10th victory after tossing seven complete innings.

In Game 2, it was the Javelinas that struck early, scoring four unanswered runs, including three in the top of the first. But true to fashion, the Rattlers responded with 5 unanswered in the third and fourth innings.

Ashley Mills picked up her fifth win of the season after coming in for relief in the fourth inning, tossing four shutout innings.

Nash followed her stellar Game 1 performance with another 3-for-3 outing in the nightcap, knocking in a pair of RBI.

Adding to the scoring were the five, six and seven hitters, Brenda Iparraguirre, Medina and Kristal Salinas, all of whom registered an RBI apiece.

The Rattlers will return to conference play with a three-game series beginning on Friday, March 24 when they host Rogers State at 3 p.m.
