In defeat, Men's Tennis goes toe-to-toe against #2 Saint Leo

SAINT LEO, Florida — A victory from Adam Dockery and Jeremiah Gonzalez in No. 1 doubles was not enough for St. Mary's Men's Tennis against the nation's No. 2-ranked team.

Saint Leo, ranked second, took the other eight points in an 8-1 victory over the 23rd-ranked Rattlers on Thursday.

But the final score didn't quite indicate how tight all of the action was, as the Rattlers forced three sets in four of the six singles matches. Gonzalez narrowly fell 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 at No. 2; Dockery dropped a tight match in No. 4, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3; Alex Joseph fell in a marathon match at No. 5, 1-6, 6-2, 10-5; while Bojan Popovic took his opponent even further in a 6-4, 2-6, 10-6 loss at No. 6.

Knowing they just went toe to toe against one of the nation's elite programs, the Rattlers will return to the courts Friday for another tough match against Rollins. The action will begin at 10 a.m. in Winter Park, Florida.
