Men's Tennis opens with impressive victory over LCC

SAN ANTONIO — St. Mary's Men's Tennis swept doubles play to fuel a season-opening 6-3 victory over Laredo Community College on Friday at the Rohrbach Stadium Tennis Complex.

Adam Dockery and Jeremiah Gonzalez teamed to take the No. 1 doubles slot 8-3, while Michael Maciel and Jose Antelo cruised 8-2 at No. 2. Newcomers Bojan Popovic and Ethan Carlson, pairing together at No. 3, won a hard-fought battle 8-6. 

The success carried over to singles, where Maciel, Gonzalez and Alex Joseph pulled out victories to carry the Rattlers to the team win. 

Maciel overcame a first-set defeat for a three-set thriller, winning 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-4) in the No. 2 slot, while Gonzalez cruised at No. 3, 6-1, 6-2. Joseph won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 6. 

The Rattlers will return to action on Friday to take on Tyler Junior College in Waco, Texas. The match will begin at 3 p.m.
