SAN ANTONIO — The 2017 Rattler Invitational ended similarly to how it began for the St. Mary's Rattlers. The Rattlers picked up a 5-2 victory over the Metro State Roadrunners at home in the final game of the weekend.
 
St. Mary's staved off a sixth inning rally from the Roadrunners with a two-out, three-run rally of its own in the bottom of the frame that was capped by a two-RBI double from Hannah Michel.
 
Behind Jorden Russell, who tossed six complete innings allowing only two-runs on four hits, the Rattlers held on to its eighth consecutive victory of the season. Russell improves to 5-1 on the season while Ashley Mills collected her second save of the season after one perfect inning of work which included a pair of strikeouts.
 
Michel, the tournament MVP, batted .375 for the weekend with three-RBI and four runs scored, including the walk-off hit in the opening game.
 
Marcela Vasquez came up huge for the Rattlers, going 2-for-3 from the plate with an RBI as Kristal Salinas went 1-for-2 with an RBI, run scored and a walk.

The Rattlers now set their sights on a trio of non conference doubleheaders before the start of conference play, beginning on Feb. 25 when they visit Texas A&M-Commerce.
