Michel, Rattlers walk-off in Rattler Invitational opener

SAN ANTONIO — Following an extended road trip to start the season, the St. Mary's Rattlers came home for the start of the 2017 Rattler Invitational, opening with a 3-2, walk-off victory over regional foe Metro State.
 
In their home opener, the No. 10 ranked Rattlers fell behind 2-0 midway through the third inning to a Roadrunner squad that, earlier in the day, defeated No. 12 Central Oklahoma in extra-innings.
 
St. Mary's would respond in the bottom of the third with a two-RBI single from Raynelle Nash that scored Hannah Michel and Olivia Van Hook.
 
Michel would conclude matters in the bottom of the seventh with a walk-off single, capping a 3-for-4 performance at the plate.
 
Brenda Iparraguirre contributed as well with a multi-hit game of her own as she went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles.
 
Jorden Russell tossed a complete game, striking out six enroute to her fourth victory of the season.
 
The Rattlers will conclude Day 1 of the Rattler Invitational with a meeting against conference rival, St. Edward's.
