Men's Tennis puts up fight against Incarnate Word

SAN ANTONIO — St. Mary's Men's Tennis lost a hard-fought, 4-0 contest to Division I Incarnate Word on Friday.

The Rattlers took No. 1 doubles behind Adam Dockery and Jeremiah Gonzalez's 6-2 victory, but dropped the other two contests in narrow 6-4 defeats. Going by Division I rules, Incarnate Word won the doubles match 2-1, taking the 1-0 overall lead into singles.

The Cardinals won three singles matches at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 6, clinching the overall victory at 4-0.

But the Rattlers battled hard, as Michael Maciel was on the verge of forcing Sebastian Mortier to three sets at No. 1. The match went unfinished at 6-3, 3-5. Felix Hollaway held a 7-6, 1-2 lead at No. 5 before his match also went unifhsed, while Adam Dockery was working on a third-set thriller that went unfinished at 6-4, 1-6, 1-1.

St. Mary's will take the courts again Saturday morning for another tough match against Trinity. Action will get underway at 11 a.m. from the Trinity campus in San Antonio.
