SAN ANTONIO — Despite Donnie Perez going yard twice against Tarleton State in the doubleheader finale on Saturday, the Rattlers dropped both games falling 9-4 in game one and 9-8 in the nightcap.

In the opening game of the doubleheader, the Rattlers fell behind 3-0 following the top of the first inning. By the fourth inning, the Rattlers managed to tie the game at 4-4 following a solo homer from Perez and an RBI single from Zach Johnson.

The Texans would then score five unanswered runs to end the game. Perez would finish the game 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Johnson finished with going 1-for-2 with an RBI and a walk.

Game two started in a similar fashion with the Texans jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first. In the third, the Rattlers got on the board with a Bryce Brandl two-run homer to left field.

Four unanswered Rattler runs resulted in the game being tied at 6-6 heading into the seventh. A two-out, three-run rally by the Texans in the top of the eighth set the stage for an exciting bottom of the ninth.

Jack Kaiser began the Rattler rally with a one-out single. Two batters later, Jacob Aguilar drove in a run with an RBI single. Beau Barnes would pull the Rattlers within one after a sac fly to center.

A wild sequence would result in the controversial final out of the ball game. With Edward Pena pinch running at first base, Oscar Betancourt shot a high pop fly to shallow left field. The potential final out was dropped by Texan shortstop Jose Reyes.

Pena rounded third trying to score the game-tying run, only to be thrown out at the plate in what was a bang-bang play, ending the Rattler comeback and the series.

Zach De La Garza, Matt Merrill and Trent Rousseau each recorded three strikeouts on the mound for the Rattlers in the loss.

St. Mary's now looks to the Houston Winter Invitational on Feb. 17 where they will be playing at Minute Maid Park, the home of Major League Baseball's Houston Astros.
