#23 Men's Tennis bounces back to defeat #29 Ouachita Baptist

MIDLOTHIAN, Texas — No. 23-ranked St. Mary's Men's Tennis pulled off an impressive 7-2 victory over No. 29 Ouachita Baptist on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Michael Maciel led the charge, winning 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 singles after teaming with Jose Antelo for an 8-2 victory at No. 2 doubles. 

Though Adam Dockery and Jeremiah Gonzalez dropped an 8-6 decision at No. 1 doubles, the two branched off to singles and cruised to victory. Gonzalez won at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-3, and Dockery won at No. 4 by the score of 6-1, 6-0. 

Alex Joseph also won at No. 5, 6-2, 6-3, while Bojan Popovic won at No. 6, 6-2, 6-3. 

Popovic also won at No. 3 doubles with Richard Foley, winning 8-3. 

The victory was especially impressive since it came a day after falling 9-0 to talented Tyler Junior College in Waco, Texas. 

In that match, the Rattlers battled hard in singles after falling behind 3-0 in doubles. Michael Maciel dropped a three-set decision at No. 2 singles, falling to Calvo 4-6, 6-3, 1-0. 

Jose Antelo fell in a back-and-forth two-setter at No. 1, losing 7-5, 6-4 to Martinez. 

Jeremiah Gonzalez went three sets at No. 3 before losing 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 to Pardo. And Alex Joseph also forced three sets at No. 5, eventually falling 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 to Manoah. 

The Rattlers will be back in action Friday at 1:30 p.m. when they travel across town to play at Incarnate Word.
