Four Rattlers chosen to NCBWA Preseason All-Region Teams

St. Mary's tabbed No. 6 in regional preseason poll

SAN ANTONIO — St. Mary's Baseball placed four players on the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America Preseason All-Region Teams, it was announced.
 
First baseman Jack Kaiser (R-Sr., Friendswood, Texas) and outfielder Donnie Perez (R-So., San Antonio) each made the First Team, while catcher Angel Vega (Sr., El Paso, Texas) and utility player Bryan Ramirez (R-Sr., Pharr, Texas) were Second-Team honorees.
 
In addition, St. Mary's was picked No. 6 in the South Central Region preseason poll.
 
Kaiser batted .356 in 53 starts for St. Mary's last season, knocking in a team-high 53 runs on a team-leading 10 home runs and 17 doubles.
 
Perez batted .349 in 48 starts a year ago, recording 14 doubles, nine home runs and 43 RBI on 60 hits.
 
Vega drove in 40 runs and batted .326 last season, scoring 38 runs and recording 15 doubles. He added eight homers and 40 RBI.
 
Ramirez led the Rattlers a year ago with 19 doubles and 64 runs scored while trying his hand at every infield position other than first base. He batted .351, second best on the team, and had 71 hits on the season.
 
St. Mary's will open the season with a three-game series against Arkansas Tech that begins at 3 p.m. Friday at Dickson Stadium. General admission tickets to the game, which cost $5, can be purchased online at StMUtickets.com.
