Men's Tennis falls to SEU in Heartland Championship final

DALLAS — After taking in their first regular season title last week in dramatic fashion, the St. Mary's Men's Tennis team fell short in the Heartland Conference Tournament final, 5-1, against St. Edwards.

The Interstate-35 rivals met last Thursday with the Rattlers clinching a 5-4 win. The Hilltoppers were able to avenge their loss and garner the Heartland Conference title this time around.

A predominately strong doubles lineup for the Rattlers was stifled today as they dropped all three doubles matches to start the contest, handing the Hilltoppers a 3-0 lead.

The Rattlers' first win of the contest would come in the singles portion as Jose Antelo was able to defeated Maximo Agoglia 6-4, 6-2, as he gave his side a glimmer of hope. Ultimately, St. Edward's proved too tough for St. Mary's with No. 4 Logan Buignet defeating Aldo Maldonado by the score of 7-6, 6-4 to take the overall win.

The Rattlers will now await their fate going forward. In order to continue their season, the Rattlers (14-11) will need to secure an at-large bid for the South Central Regional round.
