Rattlers sting Eagles in 6th inning to take rubber match, 4-1

SAN ANTONIO — The St. Mary's Rattlers took the final game of the best-of-three set against Heartland Conference foe Oklahoma Christian on Saturday, winning 4-1 at Dickson Stadium.

The Rattlers (26-18, 11-10 in Heartland) surpassed .500 in conference play and remain only one game behind Newman University for the final spot in the Heartland Conference playoffs. Oklahoma Christian (25-17) (14-7) remain the third seed in the conference.

The Rattlers got an extremely productive outing from Cole Hybner, who improved to 5-4 on the year. Hybner pitch 8 2/3 innings and allowed only one run. He also struck out six batters. Trent Rousseau came in to record the final out of the ballgame in order to earn his third save.

The Rattlers proved very capable of getting men on base all game, and managed to cash in enough to get the victory. Bryan Ramirez continued his hot series with a 3-for-4 day. Ramirez also scored a run and had an RBI. Ramirez had such a strong series that the Rattlers' leadoff man managed to reach base every time he came to the plate in the series except on one occasion.
 
Donnie Perez also had a 3-for-4 day, and contributed a 2-RBI single in the sixth inning that broke a 1-1 tie and put the Rattlers ahead for good.

The victory for the Rattlers was a complete showing against a team that they have the potential to meet up against again if they are able to qualify for the Heartland Conference playoffs.
