Ramirez delivers in 10th as Rattlers beat ASU in extras

SAN ANGELO, Texas — Bryan Ramirez delivered an RBI double in the 10th inning to charge a 3-2, extra-innings victory for St. Mary's Baseball over Angelo State on Tuesday. 

The two-out, ground-rule double allowed the Rattlers to exhale after having just watched the Rams even the score by scoring twice in the bottom of the ninth after getting shut out for the previous eight innings. 

Ramirez finished 2 for 5 with two RBI and a run score, while Matt Smith added an RBI double of his own in a 1-for-4 outing. Donnie Perez went 2 for 4 in the game. 

Jaryd Hodgson picked up the victory in relief, striking out six and allowing two runs over five innings Trent Rousseau, who entered in the 10th, earned the save. 

The victory marks another important regional win for the Rattlers (24-17), who swept the season series 2-0 against their Lone Star Conference foe. 

Not only did Ramirez punch in the winning run, but he also drove in the first run on a one-out single in the sixth. Moments later, Smith's double scored Ramirez as the Rattlers jumped to a 2-0 lead.

St. Mary's will be back in action this weekend, hosting Oklahoma Christian in a three-game series that will play a major role in who advances to the Heartland Conference Tournament. The series gets going with Friday's doubleheader, which will begin at 3 p.m. at Dickson Stadium.
