Men's Tennis stays perfect in Heartland play, shuts out UTPB 9-0

MASON, Texas — After climbing to .500 earlier this month, the St. Mary's Men's Tennis Team has reeled off three straight victories, with the latest being a 9-0 victory over the University of Texas-Permian Basin on Wednesday afternoon.

The 12th win of the year kept the Rattlers' flawless conference record in tact as they now move to 4-0. It was also their third 9-0 victory in their last five attempts.

Starting with doubles, the Rattlers got off to a fast start with the tandem of Michael Maciel and Jose Antelo winning 8-0 at No. 2 over Calmenares and Minjoot. No. 1's Adam Dockery and Richie Foley were not far behind as they were able to come out victorious, 8-1, over Stevens and Davis. Aldo Maldonado and Felix Hollaway rounded out the pairs portion with an 8-3 win at No. 3 to keep the momentum heading into singles.

The same six competitors in doubles went on clinch victories in singles starting with Maciel at No. 1 winning 6-4, 6-2 over Stevens. 

Three players were able to win sets at love, with Dockery winning 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2, Hollaway clinching a victory at No. 5, 6-0, 6-2, and Foley notching a win at No. 6, 6-1, 6-0.

No. 4 Maldonado cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 4 before Antelo battled to a three-set victory 6-4, 4-6, 10-5 win to seal the win for the Rattlers.

The win moves the Gold and Blue's record to 12-9 on the year, and they will return to the courts Sunday April 17 when they take on Cameron at 10 a.m.
