Rattlers complete sweep of Mustangs

SAN ANTONIO — The Rattlers completed their sweep of the University of the Southwest Mustangs with a pair of victories at Dickson Stadium Saturday afternoon.
 
St. Mary's (12-8) began the day with a solid performance on the mound from Victor Garza IV who allowed only one earned run in six innings pitched as he struck out three Mustang batters in a 9-1 Rattler win.
 
At the plate, Donnie Perez went 2-for-2 as he drove in a pair of runs while Bryan Ramirez, Jack Kaiser, Angel Vega, Kyle Jenkins and Bryce Brandl each tallied an RBI.
 
Game 2 featured the hard throwing Jaryd Hodgson who picked up his second victory of the season after throwing 5.2 innings, allowing one earned on four-hits as he fanned six batters.
 
Matt Smith finished the game with a 2-for-4 performance at the plate with two doubles, a pair of runs scored and an RBI.
 
Perez followed his game 1 performance by going 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI while Vega went 2-for-5 with a run scored and 2-RBI.
 
Next Friday, the Rattlers will begin Heartland Conference play when they host Rogers State for a 3-game series beginning at 3 p.m. at Dickson Stadium.
