Jones masterful in win over Angelo State

SAN ANTONIO — Chris Jones made the most of his first start of the season Tuesday night at Dickson Stadium by tossing a complete game gem against Angelo State in a 3-1 victory.

After conceding a run in the top of the first inning, Jones and the Rattlers defense settled in, holding the Rams scoreless through the final eight innings.

Aided by a number of stellar defensive plays, Jones retired 24 of the 32 batters he faced as he struck out six ASU batters, allowing only three hits as he picked up his first victory of the season.

Offensively, the Rattlers were sparked by Bryan Ramirez who reached base each of his five plate appearances with pair of doubles, a single and two walks as Jack Kaiser went 3-for-4 with a run scored and a walk.

Keith Funk, Donnie Perez and Kyle Jenkins each recorded an RBI as the trio combined for four of the Rattlers 13 hits.

Perez started the scoring for the Rattlers in the second inning with an RBI single. In the fourth, an RBI double from Jenkins gave the Rattlers the lead as a Funk RBI single the following inning punctuated the victory.

The Rattlers will resume Heartland Conference play when they host Texas-Permian Basin on Friday, April 1 at Dickson Stadium.
