Rattlers to open Heartland Tournament against UA Fort Smith

By Chad Peters | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

SAN ANTONIO — It will be a familiar Heartland Conference Tournament matchup for St. Mary's Men's Basketball.

The No. 8-seeded Rattlers will square off in the opening round against top-seeded UA Fort Smith at 12 p.m. Friday at the Union Multipurpose Activity Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

UA Fort Smith clinched the top seed following Rogers State's double-overtime victory over Dallas Baptist on Monday night.

If it sounds like a familiar matchup — well, that's because these two teams seem to clash just about every postseason. Friday's contest will mark the fourth time they've played each other in the playoffs over the past five seasons. St. Mary's won the three previous matchups, two of which came in the Heartland Conference Tournament championship game.

The Lions swept this year's regular-season series, winning at Bill Greehey Arena 86-70 and in Fort Smith, Arkansas 80-77.

Single-game adult tickets at the tournament will cost $10, while all-tournament passes will also be available for $30. University students with valid student ID or children ages 2-18 can purchase single-game tickets for $5 or all-tournament passes for $15. Active and retired military can attend the games free of charge.

Live stats for the tournament will be available here, while live video can be watched here. Sunday's championship game will be aired on ESPN3.
