Trinity edges Rattlers, 5-4

SAN ANTONIO — The St. Mary's Men's Tennis Team suffered a heartbreaking loss to crosstown foe Trinity, 5-4, Sunday afternoon on the Tigers' campus.

They were affected early on when they were swept in doubles play after No. 1's Brien Galon and Adam Dockery were narrowly defeated 9-8 by Krull and Tyer. The duo led by as much as 5-3, but the Tiger pair made their comeback to upset the St. Mary's pair and gave the Tigers a healthy advantage heading into singles play.

St. Mary's posed a sizeable comeback from four Rattlers: Jose Antelo, Aldo Maldonado, Richie Foley and the aforementioned Galon.

The Bolivian Antelo would build on his second straight singles victory with a 6-3, 6-4 dispatching of Tyer at No. 3.

However, Maldonado, Foley and Galon would all find themselves in three-set affairs as No. 4 Maldonado would defeat TU's Clayton Neiss, 4-6, 7-6 (3), 6-2. Galon would also battle back from a set down to ultimately defeat Guin 6-7 (6), 6-3, 10-7 at No. 5. Rounding out the wins for the Gold and Blue would be Foley as he, too, dropped the first set 4-6 before winning the next 6-3 and the tiebreaker 10-3 against the Tigers No. 6 Lee.

Unfortunately, the men would drop No. 1 and 2 singles to allow the Tigers (6-4) to narrowly escape with the victory.

The Rattlers (2-6) will try to get back to their winning ways on March 4 as they take on Southeastern Oklahoma State at Rohrbach Stadium.
