By Ruben Dominguez | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

BROWNSVILLE, Texas — The St. Mary's Men's Tennis team came up short in their efforts to knock off Texas Rio Grande Valley, falling 6-1 Friday afternoon.

St. Mary's (2-5) managed two wins in the contest against the Division I host.

Doubles started off the way of the Rattlers with Michael Maciel and Jose Antelo winning the No. 2 doubles match, 6-2, over Cosme Jubera/Harry Wells. However, the Gold and Blue were unable to prevail in the remaining doubles match, losing the doubles spoils and trailing 0-1 heading into singles.

The woes would continue for the Rattlers as they dropped a handful of singles matches to swing the result the way of the Vaqueros. Antelo was able to muster the lone victory for St. Mary's as he won 6-2, 7-6 over Ethan Ammon.

The Rattlers will try to regroup as they face off against Trinity on Sunday, Feb. 28.

The crosstown rivalry will take place on the campus of Trinity.
