Rattlers taken down by JUCO powerhouse Tyler J.C.

SAN ANTONIO — The St. Mary's Men's Tennis Team suffered a 6-0 setback Saturday at the hands of Tyler Junior College.

TJC, a perennial power in the NJCAA, would prove to be a tough foe as they were the first team to hold the Rattlers to a shutout in the young season. The Apaches reached a national ranking as high as No. 2 last season and they look to keep that form in tact heading into the fresh 2016 season.

With a 3-0 advantage after doubles, No. 1 Michael Maciel was in a tight battle with Ferran Calvo, the No. 1-ranked JUCO player in the country. Adam Dockery an Jose Antelo were in a similar spot at No. 2 and 3 respectively, but time would run out as the men lost the matches in the bottom half of the lineup to essentially end proceedings.

The Snakes (2-4) will look to bounce back next Friday when they travel to Brownsville, Texas to take on the University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley.
