Early deficit dooms Rattler Volleyball in opener

FAIRBANKS, Alaska — St. Mary's could not rally back from an early two-set deficit, dropping its season opener to Saint Joseph's (Indiana) 3-1 on Friday. 

St. Mary's fell 17-25, 18-25, 25-18, 15-25. The Rattlers were led by Tarine Grace with nine kills, followed by freshman Channing Hankins with eight and Lauren Holman with seven. Rachael Scicchitano led StMU with 18 assists. 
 
Saint Joseph's jumped to a 2-0 lead in the Rattlers' opening match of the Flint Hills Resources Nanook Classic, but St. Mary's battled back in the third to force a fourth set.
 
Stats from the match were not available as of late Friday evening.
 
St. Mary's will continue with two more matches Saturday, starting with Minot State at 4:15 p.m. The Rattlers will round out tournament play with a 10:15 p.m. nightcap against host Alaska Fairbanks.
