Javalinas deny @StMUvolleyball victory

SAN ANTONIO — The Texas A&M-Kingsville Javalinas defeated the St. Mary's Rattlers in straight sets, 3-0, Tuesday night inside Bill Greehey Arena.
 
Maddi King (So., Round Rock, Texas) and Channing Hankins (Fr., Katy, Texas) led the Rattler charge with 10 kills apiece. Hankins added on 13 digs to her totals on the night.
 
In the first set, the Rattlers rallied late, battling back from as much as five points down to tie the set at 24, ultimately dropping the set.
 
Set two had the Rattlers get out to a blazing start, leading by five early. This time it was the Javalinas making a comeback, taking six of the final seven points.
 
Facing a 2-0 deficit, St. Mary's continued to battle even after falling behind by as much as eight in the final set. The Rattlers came within a point after scoring five unanswered late in the set only to fall short.
 
An impressive showing from Maddy Walsh (Fr., Arlington, Texas) helped keep the Rattlers competitive. Walsh finished with 16 digs and a team high 13 assists.
 
Tori Estrada (Sr., San Antonio) contributed six assists and led the team with 17 digs.
 
Next for the Rattlers, a Heartland Conference meeting with the Newman Jets as they travel to Wichita, Kan. for an upcoming match Thursday.
