@StMUvolleyball drops pair at Javelina Volleyball Invitational

KINGSVILLE, Texas — St. Mary's Volleyball dropped a pair of matches Friday, falling 3-0 to Texas A&M-Kingsville and 3-1 to Lubbock Christian on the opening day of the Emerald Beach Hotel-Javelina Volleyball Invitational.
 
TAMUK prevailed 25-17, 26-16, 25-18. Later against Lubbock Christian, St. Mary's fell in four sets after pulling even in the second, losing 25-20, 20-25, 25-23, 25-20.

Tournament play will conclude Saturday, when St. Mary's plays Bentley at Noon followed by Drury at 4:30 p.m.
 
Against the Javelinas (4-1), Tarine Grace starred for the Rattlers (2-4), registering nine kills and a .273 hitting percentage. TAMUK offered too much of a team-wide attack, however, hitting .327 as a squad to win the match.
 
Lubbock Christian improved to 2-0 in Heartland play with its victory in the nightcap, while the Rattlers dropped to 0-2. Grace again starred, totaling 12 kills and a .219 percentage on the attack for StMU, which hit .157 as a team. Maddi King added nine kills, while Megan Isbell had eight kills with a stellar .412 hitting percentage

Isbell added eight block assists, tying the school record for a four-set match. 
 
Kalyn Guthrie led St. Mary's with 21 assists in the match, followed by Rachael Scicchitano's 19. Tori Estrada added a season-high 34 digs.
