Isbell's big night not enough as @StMUvolleyball edged in pair

By Chad Peters | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

KINGSVILLE, Texas — A pair of hard-luck losses saw St. Mary's Volleyball get swept to close out the final day of competition at the Emerald Beach Hotel-Javelina Volleyball Invitational.

In a pair of matches that were far closer than a glance at the final score might indicate, Bentley outlasted St. Mary's 3-0 before Drury survived the Rattlers by the same score. The Rattlers (2-6) scored 20-plus points in all but two sets and twice took a set to extras over the two matches, but couldn't quite overcome either opponent.

Drury (7-1) finished as the tournament champion, while St. Mary's Megan Isbell was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Isbell had a match to remember against Bentley (3-4), totaling a career-high 14 kills to go along with a scorching .737 hitting percentage. Lauren Holman added 12 kills and hit .321, as St. Mary's had one of its best offensive showings of the season in hitting .206 as a team.

Against Drury, Channing Hankins and Tarine Grace led the attack with nine kills apiece, while Maddi King — who also had a strong performance in the first match — added eight kills. Isbell had five kills and hit .500.

Drury outhit St. Mary's .231-.203.

The Rattlers will remain on the road for another week and beyond, taking on Dallas Baptist in a big Heartland Conference match at 7 p.m. Thursday in Dallas.
