No. 13 Baseball splits with Oklahoma Christian

By Robin Johnson | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

OKLAHOMA CITY — The bats cooled for No. 13 St. Mary's Baseball in Oklahoma City Friday as it split the twin bill with Oklahoma Christian, dropping the first game 4-0 and notching the nightcap, 2-1.

The split put the Rattlers' overall record at 29-10 and 16-4 in Heartland Conference play to still keep them as the No. 1 team in the league with a narrow lead over rival St. Edward's.

Eagles' ace Dillon Endecott shut out the Snakes in Game 1, keeping StMU to just three hits for the game while the Eagles peppered off eight hits for four runs.

Starting pitcher Matt McClain (Sr., San Antonio) went the complete game, striking out five to be charged with the loss to drop to 6-2 on the season.

The Rattlers were able to edge OC in Game 2 thanks to a Mario Maldonado (Sr., Laredo, Texas) two-RBI double in the fourth for the Rattlers' only two runs on the game.

Scott Jones (Sr., College Station, Texas) smacked two of the Rattlers' four hits in Game 2.

Kris Gardner (Sr., Coppell, Texas) threw a gem for the split, tossing a complete game with six strikeouts. Gardner's outing improved him to 9-2 on the season as he allowed just four Eagle hits in nine innings of work.

The Eagles and Rattlers play the rubber match at 1 p.m. Saturday in Oklahoma City at Dobson Field.
